Quotes
“It’s a stunning record, that. Really imaginative – never heard anything like that before. So I’m really looking forward to what they produce next.”
BBC Music Introducing
“Gorgeously stitching orchestral elements, intimate vocals and blissful musical layerings, there is a rare talent on show here. This is full and complex and entirely addictive. “
“Charged with a real intensity… such an evocative sound.”
Various Small Flames
“10 childhood nursery rhymes vividly reimagined as if through a glass darkly”
Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music
“Hypnotic…the imprint and atmosphere of a very interesting universe.”
“I didn’t want to like it, I didn’t even think I would like it, but what a bloomin’ fool I am! This is so, so cool. It’s so much better than I remember the track from my childhood.”
Jericho Keys, BBC Radio York
About
Maxim is a project born of the slow burn of remote collaboration and a shared passion for experimentation with musical heritage. From Drew Worthley’s Worthing studio on the south coast, to No Spinoza’s northerly home of York, the two artists shaped and reshaped fresh iterations of childhood curiosities over the lockdown months of 2020. The result is a series of 10 reimagined avant-garde nursery rhymes laced with a melodic pop vibrancy. The album reached its culmination during summer 2021 at Echo Zoo Studios, helmed by Dave Izumi Lynch (Ed Harcourt, Billy Bragg, Jake Bugg, The Magic Numbers), where the pair’s remote recordings were augmented with analogue synths, live string arrangements and kinetic drums.
Maxim will be released on 28 March 2022, preceded by a selection of single launches and artistic curio collaborations.
